So, IOW, they became what every other big company has become. It's not about employees. It's not about customers. It's not about product. It's only about returning every penny they possibly can to shareholders.
Exactly this. Thousands of USA based companies sell products and services to foreign governments all over the world for the purpose of making more money. Yet no one discusses those companies. Why should Google be put on a pedestal?
Organizations grow and change all the time. People who still think a 20+ year old organization needs to hold fast to its founders roots are holding the company back.
If there is a group of googler's that still believe in the "do no evil" manatra, have them go off and build a nonprofit org that builds services that respect "do no evil". Or improve open source / free services that can compete with Google services.
