4chan has bots too.

I know another family like this. One partner still works, but the other one is essentially a full time advocate for an inherited disease that fewer than 100 people in the world are affected by. I don't think much money is involved, but they've changed the narrative about the disease and some researchers are taking them seriously.

The Middle East does not understand Democracy. It will just be another strong man in power. The diaspora is pushing for a new shah

E core vs P core is an internal power struggle between two design teams that looks on the surface like ARM’s big.LITTLE approach

E cores ruined P cores by forcing the removal of AVX-512 from consumer P cores

Which is why I used AMD in my last desktop computer build

That's finally set to be resolved with Nova Lake later this year, which will support AVX10 (the new iteration of AVX512) across both core types. Better very late than never.

E cores didn't just ruin P cores, it ruined AVX-512 altogether. We were getting so close to near-universal AVX-512 support; enough to bother actually writing AVX-512 versions of things. Then, Intel killed it.

I love the AVX512 support in Zen 5 but the lack of Valgrind support for many of the AVX512 instructions frustrates me almost daily. I have to maintain a separate environment for compiling and testing because of it.

There was someone at Intel working on AVX512 support in Valgrind. She is/was based in St Petersburg. Intel shuttered their Russian operations when Putin invaded Ukraine and that project stalled.

If anyone has the time and knowledge to help with AVX512 support then it would be most welcome. Fair warning, even with the initial work already done this is still a huge project.

Snarky but I agree. I dislike how much MacOS changes with each version. My kids have a Linux box (NUC). I wish we could have Linux on a late model Mac Mini

EU won't do 996

Not doing 996 is a feature not a bug

Not when you want to win and compete with someone who does 996

Anyone who does 996 is being exploited, unless they're the actual boss, in which case they're the ones doing the exploiting if they're pushing 996 on their employees.

This is why 996 bosses think AI can replace their employees, because they already see the employees as robots, not humans.

instead of running guys to the ground, you _could_ hire more people and do shifts if it's that important to stay current.

No, it's 996 for 845 wages.

Anthropic would disagree seemingly.[1]

We have other places outside of France, come on!

what does 996 mean?

As in live a healthy life so you can make your work hours more productive?

Good thing I always lie on the internet

But do you lie with the same writing style?

nope, and I sometimes walk with a pebble in one or more shoes /s

If you walk without rhythm,

Liar paradox

Everything I type is a lie.

I think it's just lack of ecosystem of the underlying parts and the inability of manufacturers to design for such an ecosystem. I have an EV and I can't even change the 12V battery on my own because it's some weird proprietary L-shaped thing.

My impression is that protests in the West are largely MAGA aligned and focused more on regime change. Totally different target audience. Observe “MIGA” slogans and Trump’s face in this video from Los Angeles

Edit: Also, the Left seems to more often pick sides when its one ethnic group oppressing another, as identity politics is prominent in their messaging

If anything it feels more surprising that the foreign protests aren't getting more coverage. They've been huge, it seems.

Inside Iran the message is similar: get Donald Trump’s attention. And the stated goal of the action is to reinstall the Shah as the head of a caretaker government who pinky swear promises to let the people choose how they want to be governed. This is problematic for civic minded Westerners for obvious reasons.

There is no organized political opposition inside of Iran for obvious reasons. That's the biggest problem here.

But foregners know better than the Iranians what's best for Iran? Just like in Cuba and Venezuela.

I think if Biden was taking a lot of the same actions the Trump admin is taking, people would support it a lot more (Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, maybe even Gaza).

Of course then the right would be protesting foreign interventions.

> I think if Biden was taking a lot of the same actions the Trump admin is taking, people would support it a lot more (Venezuela,

If Biden repeatedly shot boats that he alleged carried drugs without evidence and then shot survivors again for good measure until he eventually went and captured Venezuela's de facto head of state, people would support him a lot more? Really?

Yeah, of course democrats would support that much more than with Trump doing it.

Same goes the other way of course. Republicans would be much more against it.

> people would support it a lot more

> democrats would support that much more, Republicans would be much more against it.

More people ≠ more Democrats

Software pays better, which is why so many hardware people switched, including myself. In my group, which is mixed between the two, my software job classification nets me a higher bonus and easier promotions

Edit: also never have to stay late to rework components on dozens of eval boards, and also never have to talk with manufacturers 10 timezones away

> Software pays better, which is why so many hardware people switched

Something I noticed years ago browsing jobs in random large companies:

hardware or anything close to hardware (firmware, driver dev, etc.) was all outsourced. Every single job I saw in that domain was in India or China/Taiwan.

High level software jobs (e.g. node.js developer to develop the web front end for some hardware device) were still in the US.

I’ve wondered if thats impacted why so many hardware people ran off to software.

Maybe the grass-is-greener on the other side applies here, but, I would find it a privildeg to be in a position where I could take a pay-cut and work on hardware.

Also, I'm not convinced hardware pays less, I would just do it for less pay.
