yeah I run Claude code on a 2013 Mac book air that refuses to die, I don't think it's very compute heavy.

where I work, we're not allowed to merge them. we test every change, and we review everything to make sure there are no regressions in all the obvious features. scrolling through our webpage will never break in production, because we use people with a full set of eyes to check before merge.

I believe you but I've literally not worked at a single place that puts that much scrutiny on PRs and I've been working as a professional programmer for 20 years.

I did luck out with the $current_job. Software engineering is a tool to do the job right. I'd hate to work somewhere where software is the product.

my hypothesis is that chatgpt was trained on the internet, and useful technical answers on the internet were posted by autistic people. who else would spend their time learning and then rushing to answer such things the moment they get their chance to shine? so chatgpt is basically pure distilled autism, which is why it sounds so familiar.

I deal with loneliness the same way I'd deal with any addiction. I tell myself I just need to get through one minute at a time, then one hour and then one day. It's not even a whole 24h, I only have to be awake for 16h and I can get through that. Tomorrow doesn't matter, because I might not have to wake up again. If I do, I'll handle it then.

This allows me to not add any further worry/anxiety/pain to the day. when it hurts, I get by, and when the pain stops for a few hours, I enjoy the things I have available to me - walks on the beach, substance abuse (chocolate), reading, watching TV. I tend to watch the same shows over and over, it's almost like having friends, but they never leave. I do try to talk to one human being at least once a week even if it's online, just to make sure my voice still works. It's important to realise that nothing really matters in the end. There's no viva committee at the end that will pass/fail you. Serving your time on earth is the only thing that matters. Once the time is passed, you never have to serve it again.

I have no mouth and I must scream.

it is a terrifying thought.

We grew a brain on a petri dish, gave it a shotgun, and sent it to hell.

Next up, we teach it to speed run Getting Over It. What a horrible existence.

this is amazing - it reminds me of the time when LLM precursors were able to babble in coherent English, but would just write nonsense.

they brought the Nazis to the US and now hydra has taken over.

She's probably happier than you though.

reminds me of the lazy gun in against a dark background!

Does anyone know if this will affect Lineage OS with root?

As far as I know, it's implemented in the proprietary part of Android (Google Mobile Services, GMS), so it won't affect LineageOS users as long as they don't install the GMS.
