We'll soon have drones fighting drones, with few or no lives at risk. Like countries burning piles of money until one runs out.

That is already happening in Ukraine.

There are quite a few lives being lost in Ukraine still.

It's cuz Ars's roots are in being video game bloggers and graphics card reviewers, not legitimate journalists. They don't have a notion of professionalism or journalistic duty, only virality and juicy takes.

Just a reminder of how millennial-centric HN is. Everyone here is in their 40s and moving to the suburbs to raise their kids, and this article provides validation.

It is kind of funny that people here tend to dump on Reddit a lot (often times warranted, don’t get me wrong), when this place is an echo chamber in a similar way.

With Israel being able to sic the USA on its enemy of the month, it is clear that Israel is the most powerful country in the world.

Are you aware of the Iran hostage crisis of 1979? Iran has been an enemy of the US since the revolution.

Remember when we bombed Iran at Fordow? It happened less than a year ago. Iran sent some perfunctory retaliation, and everyone forgot the whole affair. Same with this. Nothing ever happens.

idk about that, telling people to get ready for body bags does not sound like the hands-off fireworks show of previous episodes.

Given the amount of planes this isn’t going to be a single precision strike

Yeah bro no one voted for this.

Those spiked like 50x in the past 4 months. Doesn't seem to mean anything.

The only time it didn't spike was for the Venezuela Maduro operation.

At this point, the pizza index is another vector of (dis)information managed by the Pentagon.

Once that side channel was found, it was kind of inevitable it would be plugged. Even under a normal administration, that's an opsec leak.

Seriously. They can put a Burger King anywhere on the planet in 24 hours, but can't do their own pizza at the Pentagon?

It's everything. NASA doesn't have the money, brainpower, efficiency etc. to implement SpaceX development method. They can't fab it fast enough, nor can they iterate on the engineering fast enough, nor are they will to sustain the optics of a "government rocket blowing up" like Musk is. They don't have the caliber of engineering talent available or a workflow setup (high autonomy, long hours, better pay).

They don’t do the fabbing or (a lot of) the engineering now - they contract it all out. They could oversee those contracts differently but that would just be hiring SpaceX instead of Boeing or Blue Origin. Which they are doing some anyway.

Noam Chomsky said AI should be called, "plagiarism software."

And aeroplanes should be called featherless bipeds

Aeroplanes usually have tricycle landing gear so that doesn't make sense. But AI is literally plagiarism in a huge proportion of cases.

You can't spell plagiarism without AI. Twice.

Tech industry composed of many of the smartest people in the world with the most money, and the backing of the current US presidency vs. average middle America school district. Hmm.

Russia level of inefficiency in infrastructure implementation.
