Go back a day, month, or year. Go forward a day, month, or year.

I think the server costs around $350/mo. I don't like to think how much time HN actually takes up, but when I was traveling recently I found that checking in for about 30 min a day was enough to keep things under control.

On a weekday we get about 350k pageviews from about 30k unique ip addrs.

As an exercise in research outsourcing, I found a list of 2008 technology acquisitions and paid some random person on Mahalo Answers $30 to research where those companies were when they got bought. I'm going to drop them on a Google Map, but I was quite surprised at how global they really were.

I'm also going to do it for 2007 (what's another $30?).

Here's the 2008 list. Once I do it for 2007, I'll map it out. Out of 106, 81 of them were outside of the Valley. There might be a few more, as I don't recognize all of the towns clustered around the valley. It would be interesting to plot exit events over time-- I'd guess that we're trending towards LESS clustering rather than more.

Isn't this, rich web apps, what Steve Jobs originally said should happen when asked why an SDK/third party native apps weren't going to be made available?

> I haven't figured out any clear, universal argument.

Because 99% of humanity really doesn't need to be on twitter?

The only reasons I can see are to follow 'trends' and spam people interested in your product(s), or follow celebrities.

Hypothesis: people who smile in yearbook photos are not really happy, just concerned with appearances, and thus likely to stay in a joyless marriage for appearance's sake.

I'm only half joking :)

The fact that anyone was actually outraged in the first place is the real failure here. I would have assumed prior to this past Sunday that nobody would be stupid enough to think that Amazon would maliciously, openly, and unapologetically de-list all material pertaining to homosexuality (or categorize it as "adult").

Okay, fine, Amazon screwed up and there was a glitch or a security hole or whatever it really was. Their bad, they should fix that and people have a right to be upset that their books lost sales or whatever was the case. But moral outrage? Protest logos? Petitions? People either need to lighten up or get lives that lack the required free time to get that worked up over a conspiracy that was obviously irrational.

aaah. another year, another release.

Ever since 7.1, I'm a near-fanatic PostgreSQL-user, if not to say fanboi.

I love, love, love PostgreSQL for its performance, its features, its awesome community and just for the fact that it's getting better and better every year.

Congratulations to the PostgreSQL team.

I've said it before and I'll probably say it many more times: You guys rule.

Sorry. This had to be said :-)
